A Blueprint for Corporate Social Investment

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at RisCura is based on empowering and uplifting people through focused partnerships that provide meaningful and sustainable projects to each community in which we reside.

A Winning Approach Pioneered in South Africa

In South Africa, our CSR involvement naturally includes the easing of poverty and embracing the practice and spirit of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE). But wherever we do business we also want to know our skills and resources are applied in alignment with the business values on which we are built.

This means developing viable relationships with organisations and causes that offer genuine improvement to the needs of local communities, as well as regular, hands-on volunteer opportunities for our staff members.

Our CSR programme typically values and focuses on 4 key areas.

1. Supporting the Elderly

Given our line of work, our primary CSR focus is on supporting programmes and organisations that assist the elderly, such as:

  • Sponsorship of NGOs working directly with disadvantaged pensioners (like Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH) in South Africa
  • Volunteerism with community-based organisations that advocate for and support the elderly, their rights and pension payments
  • Financial planning for retirement and budget training through community-based organisations

2. Educating the Next Generation

One vital aspect of our work is to protect and grow retirement savings. Healthy pensions are built on stable and rewarding employment, which is more attainable with a solid education. We therefore support organisations and initiatives that give young people a head start in education, such as:

  • Professional training, job shadowing, mentoring and internship programmes for young graduates
  • Tertiary education scholarships for underprivileged students pursuing careers in finance, science and mathematics
  • Guest lecturing and teaching at educational institutions by RisCura staff
  • Sponsorship of non-profit organisations directly working to up-skill, train and professionalise young adults wanting to enter the workforce

3. Promoting Sustainable Business Efforts

As a business, we strive to work in environmentally friendly and sustainable ways, with partners who wish to do the same. A philosophy of long-term investing feeds our prioritisation on sustainable business practices and outlooks with:

  • Committing to recycle, reduce and reuse, in each RisCura office and the business as a whole
  • Supporting conservation initiatives and programmes implemented in areas in which we work and can collaborate with to expand
  • Green technologies, applied to both infrastructure and R&D, geared to ensure maximum energy saving and efficiency

4. Applying Good From Within

RisCura is filled with energetic, impassioned and principled people who want to make a positive difference to their environment – both internally and in the wider community.

As well as being aligned with the way we work, RisCura's dedication to skills, enterprise and socio-economic development in South Africa can be seen in our:

  • Up-skilling and training of staff who want to pursue higher education in financial and managerial expertise
  • Support for enterprise initiatives that will positively transform the stockbroking industry
  • Extensive in-house training through the RisCSchool programme and bursaries to all staff members pursuing continued education and job-related degrees

Perhaps most importantly, the social initiatives we are most proud of are the many projects emanating from the compassion, ideas and commitment of RisCura’s staff. Whether running marathons, trekking across Africa or helping local charities, we actively encourage all our people to support volunteer projects - not only by giving their time but also providing the publicity, venues, expertise and funding required to do the best for those who need our help.
